Sky News has reported that Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) is cutting 362 jobs and shutting 26 sites as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The chain currently has 62 restaurants, including two in Brighton and one in Chichester.
It's understood that Ranjit Boparan, who has built one of the country's largest casual dining groups through a string of takeovers, has bought GBK through a pre-pack administration.
Boparan Restaurant Group, which operates Slim Chickens, Giraffe and Ed's Easy Diner, also rescued Carluccio's from insolvency earlier this year.
Bosses said the cuts are necessary to save hundreds of positions across the UK.
It's not known yet which sites will be affected.
